From the Google Earth Image (see link below) it seems like it would be good in a NW. The waves are breaking on some sandbars. Looks good for port tack jumps, The drawback would be getting to the beach. There is access according to the Nanaimo CityMap (www.nanaimo.ca), but it seems a bit of a hike.

 bean, try the park next to pipers, you have to hike over the hill but the wind is right on the beach. gene

Take Uplands Dr then Blueback to the end. There is a parking lot and a 250 stair case down to the beach. In sub 10' tides this is by far the best NW kitesurfing spot. When exposed the sand "bar" is enormous, about 1km long by 400m wide ( a great spot for lessons with the right conditions). When the tide is at the right level, a huge shallow pond fills in making for sweet flat water.

This could be a good windsufing spot with a 12' plus tide, but you'll be damn tired carrying your gear that far. If you are concerned about safety, it might be safer than Pipers.
