Nimpkish Sailing

I went to Nimpkish early this year, March and the wind was up...I know its a great place to sail...are there any good places to practice water starts? The main site I was at looked rough, both with big waves and and the old rail piles....is the camp site further south better?

Nitinat is the best place to learn, good wind cross shore, shallow at beach, warm

big waves, rail piles, rough?? not at all sure where you were, the main campground has gusty winds, no waves and the campground is quite tidy....
however: next to the lake but a bit south there is Anutz (??, sp?) Lake that gets no waves and steady wind coming right off the big lake. Never been but apparently sand there too, sounded great for learners when it was described to me, check the next logging road just south of Nimpkish. DWD probably knows how to get there

Ive been in there but never though about sailing it! Anutz lake was once the south end of nimpkish, untill it was cut off from the main lake by the nimpkish river sediments. to get to anutz take the zeballos exit, cross the big bridge then head north at every main junction (there are 3). its about 6.5 km in to the lake. Its a pretty dinky pond, but probably good for waterstart practice if youre in the area! check it out on google earth- high res imagery.

In 2003 I saw a German Dr. launch right from the landing(boat launch) in the canfor camp ground. He was on a Naish strapped surf board. Went straight out into the pilons south west perpendicular to the shoreline and made an amazing single tack windward and was in the middle of the lake like it was nothing. He even timed the gust to make it straight downwind to where he started. I have never seen him since nor anyone launch there with success.
