2011 Quatro Quad

They were sold out of the 2010's but had a few 2011's at Big Winds. These suckers had me drooling all over them. The short stubby and wide shape, girthy middle and tail makes them look like they'd plane so easy and turn on a dime.

Anyone had a chance to take one for a burn?

Yes I do like a girthy middle!

If I had $2000 to burn I would have bought one then and there! 75L to compliment the 91L would work quite nice I think - I have never actually sailed a small board though, so I really have no idea. I wonder how many days/year I'd get out of it? 85L is probably too much overlap.

the way you treat your 91 I wouldn't plan a board quiver around that one :roll: :lol:

Whaaaaat is with all this beating up on my 91L? I baby that thing... I mean sure I forgot the vent plug once, and it has an ugly (temporary) glob of ding stick on it.. but compared to the recent carnage on your board Kus, it's mint, especially considering its edging up on 100 sessions, many of which were still at a very beginner level!

:lol: i don't plan board quivers around carnage and worn out boards :idea: 8) besides, that "temporary" :roll: dingstick has been leaking into that thing for months now, feel any heavier to you :D :?:

I plan to do a proper fix on it tonight or tomorrow or in a few weeks thank you very much! Unlike the rest of you I only have one board, so as long as it's windy, no time to fix!

The Quatro quads do look sweet, but judging by the review, a loose twin would be the better call for our crappy side-on waves. The 2011 Star-Board Quads are interesting in the manner they can adjust set up for Twin or Quad sailing. I wonder how the Quatro quad sails with the front fins removed to loosen it up for side-on sailing? Would it feel funky or as good as the twin fins in their line-up?

I've yet to sail a board that turns as well and is as loose as my Nelson on a wave or swell, but I do pay a bit of a price in planing, jumping and upwind ability (these downsides can be somewhat compensated for though with decent technique or lots of wind!). This is where the quads interest me. I want the quad's ability to plane early, jump and rip upwind combined with the INSANE turning ability of my twin. Tough compromise either way maybe.

LS Quads in BC, Oregon

Hi again on this topic-

I haven't had a chance to get out and provide demos of the Quatro Quads but hope to over the holidays, IV and CB spring and of course also in Oregon in the summer months. See the difference for yourself! The Quatros have been a welcome addition to OES and AHD boards I am able to offer for sale/distribution/demo.

MSRP for the quads is $1995US and the LS quads come in 75, 85 and 95 (coincidentally see picture of the week, by Randy). The pure wave sideshore KT boards are also available but have limited application for our shores. I currently have the latter two LS' for demo. Given certain conditions and variation in pick-up locations impacts pricing, please contact me and we can discuss.

If anyone is interested in getting one of these babies, please let me know as there is opportunity now for a limited time to get one via the rapidly dwindling 2011 Maui warehouse stock. This also enables a better price offer given some costs may not be incurred. 8)

to add to the earlier review i can report the following to round out my experiences on this board:

The Quatro 95 LS Quad carries a fully lit 3.7 quite nicely and the board does not feel too big in over 40 knot gusts.....I don't know how or why. One thing may be that it is overrated at 95L, it really feels more like a 90.
I rode my 85 right before it which felt the same except lower volume made it much more difficult *way more than 5L diff) to slog in the holes. The 95 did NOT like big holes lateron and I really felt the drag of the four vs one fin and you had to sacrifice a downwind pump or two to get it going (which it did quickly) and it was hard work to keep it going. Mega forward lean was required to keep on the plane. The wider stance amplified the discomfort. This was NOT fun but I am not certain if I would have fared much better with a single fin in these circumstances. Ebb current and wind turning offshore added to the effort.
At this time I feel that thus far the quad does some things three times better than comparable sized boards, it is particularly noticable in that it finds the groove out of turns if you let it....it lacks in a small niche of sailing conditions and obviously is not intended for flat water. There is little to no advantage sailing the quad in chop or very steep faces IMHO. It does excel in regular medium wave conditions we see at IV or Klover on a medium to larger wave day. Cannot wait to try it at CB but given what I have experienced it would have to be a full on day to feel a benefit, none of the usual barely 5.3 crap CB has delivered thus far this disappointing fall season. Here's to big CB days for the new year :twisted:
