Thanks JL, good links. I also like using the NAVCANADA 12hr forecast page in winter since it helps predict the timing of the fronts and positions of the lows. Time are in UTC so subtract 7hrs from the VLD time. When combined with the NOAA synopsis detailed explanation it makes things somewhat understandable:
