in the winter i normally add a 2mm neoprene vest to my outfit, for bonus warmth. After missing a month this summer with a displaced rib, i am considering going to a bit more solid impact style. is there a good one that works nicely with a waist harness? im not looking for extra floatation. 8)

I've been looking for something similar too, but more of an impact vest/harness combination. I like my 2004 Neil Pryde impact harness but it is no longer offered. Dakine, Cabrinha and Prolimit also used to make impact harnesses but it seems that most manufacturers have cut this combined configuration from their product lines.

As for a separate impact vest to go with a waist harness, this one caught my eye, mostly just because I like the d3o technology (soft and pliable until struck). It looks sleek which would help when swimming after my gear in the CB impact zone.

ya I know you said you're not looking for floatation, but the vest that I just picked up from Promotion, model Rampage, is outstanding.

id like something that enhances my pecs and abs too. the mystic one looks good. dont like the floaty one but i do see there is a promotion kite vest that looks nice. i will add some surf shorts over my suit too so things will look good.

Hey, I have a Promotion Kite Vest (no shorts over wetsuit though). I haven't worn it in a long time. I wouldn’t really call it an impact vest. The upper flotation would help some, but the lower part is just a big velcro closure. Regarding the Mystic Vest.... HAIL CENTURION!

Adding shorts over the wettie is key.

I have the Mystic and really like it; given my spectacular crashes as I jump, it was paid off long ago. Plus it's a hell of a lot warmer when it's on.

mini review: i sailed saturday with the mystic vest pictured above. mine is slightly different in that it is not smoothskin neoprene. good deal from Elevation Kiteboarding. first impression - warm! toasty warm, will be happy to layer it on thru the winter. Fit was good, i got a M and it is snug but not too tight (i wear a MT suit). with the waist harness on everything sits nicely, it even seemed to help keep the harness in place. for impact protection it was super nice, i landed one fwd on my back and another back loop attempt led to a good crash; i didnt even get winded or have to wonder if my spleen was attached. for floatation, i am sure there is some but i didn't really notice it. overall i have to say i very glad i got it. makes me feel safe and confident. the vest even adds a bit of hi vis orange to my black suit. downside: tough to pull off. having a buddy nearby can help.
