Melges 24 World Championships

All this week the world championships for the Melges 24 class sailboat will be held off of Esquimalt lagoon. Boats from GBR, AUS, USA, ITA and CAN will be competing. So far Victoria based sailors out of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club are putting up a good show, holding most of the top 10 spots, with 42 boats competing in the pre-worlds event, the Canadian Nationals
Racers are divided into two fleets, with full time paid sailors scored separately from amateur sailors. Yes there are full time paid sailors. What a job that would be!
I’d be down to take a kite trip over there one day, and stay well away from the course, but close enough to get a bit of a view.
