Arrived to 8-12kts, had rigged up the Goya Airbolt at home and moved the straps forward to test. Headed out with a fat 6.0m Flyer and got up foiling quickly but front strap too far forward so with my foot in the strap board wasn't lifting off so moved front foot back and that worked. That was me being stupid, if I moved the front strap I needed to also move the foil forward as well and I didn't. UGH! Came in and moved the strap back and all was good but wind had backed off by the time I got back out. Made i ... (more)

Nice sunny day and steady wind on the SF1080! Better wind than Tuesday, yet less wings on the water. Big upwind leg to the Point Grey pillbox for over an hour, finally reaching swell and some breaking waves as I rounded the Point Grey dolphin. The flat and easy low tide conditions suddenly becoming quite challenging in the white water of breaking waves. My stamina started to wain, and I turned back from my goal of the North Arm after a short lull.

Arrived to delicious looking flat water and solid wind at 10-15kts with RedVanPaul and Marky-Mark rigging and H-Rock and RobC arriving with a big smiles on their faces. I figured I would put on the smaller foils 950cm2/184cm2and see how that went. Got out and tide was getting low so made for a bit of a walk over the rocks which is the worst thing about CP on the low tides Anyways, headed out and wan't 100% happy with the smaller foil as there were some holes which the foil glided through well but on the out ... I answered Bbsn and Paul's OSRs and was ready to go in with my 5m. Paul, DocMark, Bbsn, and Rob all went in first and it felt like the winds had lessened. I got my small 6m ready and followed them in. It was occasionally holey, so the bigger wing was the better choice. Fantastic warm conditions in the sunshine and lightish winds. Had a great time trying to get some gopro captures of the OGs and my usual DM carves. Nice follow up to PL's bigger winds. No takers for bevys, so I rehydrated solo.

Took the plunge and booked off for a Pipers play day. It looked really good at 9am on the cam before leaving. Got there and 1 lonely winger out, turned out it was John Lum who I've not seen on the water in a couple years. He was on a 4m so that's what I went with and my HPS930. It was a really nice day, very easy and a gentle 4m, unfortunately swell was very small had no real carry to it, on some of the better ones I could get about 3 turns and they'd wimp out. Cruised up to Neck Point Park and it was getti ... (more)

So rare to have a NW in front of house. Took advantage of it. Warm bath water for the first ~50 meters, very shallow at low tide. Exhausting walking in the sinking mud/clay up to knee/above knee, but sure feel nice. I guess Ill have to drive to the other island spot for most of the time SE/Westerly.
Weirdo Wind: Extreme Lift and Loft, but quite holey and gusty near shore, needed to keep kite moving. Usually doesnt get both at the same time. Fun by time. Hopefully it will be better Wednesday, was still fu ... (more)

Fun swells with the Flexible Werk Arrangement Club (FWAC) at Pipers. Plenty of RBFC representation. Wind held nicely. Had to avoid a large submerged piece of plastic that transformed itself into a sea lion right before my eyes. Not sure who was more alarmed. Some larger swells out among the islands. Did some figure 8s around them.

Pipers did not disappoint during the mass RBFC migration up island. 10+ foilers made the trek and were blessed with 4m or smaller winds. Conditions weren't easy, but they were gusty and powerful - and that's how I like it. I was intimidated by the conndiitons outside of the bay with the big winds and big swell. I had lots of enjoyment just non-stop jibing closer to the beach. I was even able to play in the swells at the marker level. The water and air temps were warmer than I expected. First session of the year. Finally got to try the Code foils. Looked windy when i arrived so tried the 850s front wing and 5m. Dropped so came in and put on the 1130s. /150Ar. Boom, up right away and making jibes all afternoon. Code is very stiff which makes it smooth in the turns.

Should of re-rigged the 7M as I would of got longer more stable swell rides. The Grey Whale is still around. It surfaced 400m south of the clubhouse tonight at 5pm after surfacing several times on the Stanley Park side of the shipping channel when I was out.

Honoured to lose my Piper's virginity today along with Nolan. Blustery, choppy but good fun overall. I think we had at least a dozen from the RBFC crew today: Danno, WindJunky, HRock, GregCan, Lance, GBV, RobC, RedVanPaul, Tweezer, John and DrMark. After an hour, fatigue started to set in and the 3m/880 combo felt a bit underpowered. That made me nervous so I switched to the 4m and was mostly overpowered for the rest of the session. The devil on my shoulder told me to follow Tweezer through Hudson Rock ... (more)

Fun Piper's day. Powered up on the 5.5. Wind became steady and filled in nicely. Swell was fun too! 4 Windsurfers, lots of Wingers! Markus, thank for the offer of beer. Nice to see Mike from Duncan out as well. MarkK arrived for the second shift!

First time at Pipers. It delivered big time with full sun all day! Seems like half the Victoria crew was out. Ang provided beers after an epic day of hoots and smiles.

Looked epic but then saw DM slog a bit so I rerig 5.0 to 5.3, 104. Powered fine but didnt feel great, port tack almost dislocating neck, after some abuse & OP rides, went for 5.0/94 & all was lovely. Fully juiced, 4.7 mighta worked. Swell tides, fun beach chatter, sun & familiar faces. Pipe was great!
Tempted to foil! Even wing!

Solo session at Acadia. Pretty light W 15-18 so had to really work my 8m+surfboard. Small knee high waves but super smooth water - perfect for almost 2 hrs of hero gybes.

Put Karen on the water with the 4.5m wing on the Konrad to get some more practice on her knees before wind picked up.
Hit the .water for 3/4 before taking a lunch break at 1pm. Then went back out at 2:30pm for 1:45 when the wind dropped enough to make the 4.5m manageable again. The Konrad is now feeling pretty sluggish, but still managed a few gybes. Good wind despite the high clouds.

A little wingding in the wild. In tofino to get my surf on ( such as it is).
Looked at long beach, cox, but surf WAY too big to contemplate, so tried MacKenzie/chesterman.
Much better, but quite squirrelly winds and confused water. Fun to try somewhere new - too bad i forgot to start the watch, would have been interesting to see the track- maybe tomorrow.

Wow, wow, wow. Beautiful morning spent sailing the swell and steady NW with a number of wingers well advanced beyond my current skill set. Quite the spot on a day like today. 3.5 KT Direct Drive and more than enough sail.

Great solo first day back on the water! Expected less from the predicted 20 kt NW but powered off the beach right away. Of course it got lighter soon after but the smooth waves allowed many fun wave rides. Loving the Crispy new Goya Eclipse 5.5.

Two left boots :/ ?!**^%!!
Guess I'm going barefeet. Model2 was a little blue and not much better on the "Latest Reports". With some texture on the cam and rising temps, it was worth a shot!
Good intensity at the point, a little noisy at times on the 4.5 mild and swelly on the outside. As expected on a NW, I found better lines north of the Hudsons. A bit chilly on the toes but bare feet on the Armstrong system just fits.
More tomorrow!

Showed up late for the dance. I was heading out as Gee was slogging in, Bobson was on/off foil, and Poper way out there praying for winds. Luckily, I caught a gust and quickly got up, and then just as quickly came down as it lulled. It was up and down and i got lots of light wind jibing practice. The sun and warmth made the session worthwhile, the mediocre winds made it a pumpfest to get up and stay up. Happy I got out in the 18degC sun! Bevys and banter with Bobson was a fitting climax!

Arrived to RobC having a nap in the sun and Da Pope doing jumping jacks to warm up and GregCan just rigging. It looked like 8-10kts so I headed out on a fat 6.0m Flyer and 1263cm2 front foil. Had to schlog for a few mins then BOOM, caught a gust and was foiling. It was very light wind the whole session. Played with Toe-side-Joe(GregCan) and Rope-a-Pope for an hour then Toe-side-Joe left and tagged The Drunken-Monkey who came out just as wind died off. I found a few more gusts but decided not enough and head ... (more)
