Beat the heat tour day 1 was very lame but still on the water in sunny cool Newport hanging with Dan and Roz, Vicki and JF. They braved heat Tuesday in search of gorge hate wind and I moved solo to Pistol. We snuck in a wicked mountain bike ride Tuesday morn on dude sweet trails in Newport.

3 Sessions 11:30 - 1:30pm 3:30-5pm & 7-8pm Wind was best in the early morning but there were puffs and pressure fields enough to plane if you have a 160Liter board and can rig big. Like yesterday the best wind pressure was along the rocks & hill at the north end of the Park. There were whitecaps most of the day but not the steady 12knots that normally makes them. Sunday session wasn't expected as the forecast was very light (and early). I decided to finally test the DW board and 6m AA in light conditions. Neither disappointed. I was quickly reminded however that the caution with light wind gear it that is can get you out but not always back. Just a couple knots less or a chop in the wrong direction and you can't get up when way out there. After learning that (again), I stuck closer to shore where the wind was better anyway. We talked a bit about coaching & Olympic sailing stuff we are both familiar with. Its neat what he's done in past lives coaching for BC Sailing.

Wind came in quick today just after 11 and as we had just packed up the camp we were ready to go! First on the water and had the lake to myself for about 20 minutes in really nice breeze. This was the main event for the weekend and it didn't disappoint. I wasn't as disciplined as BWD and Rup Dogg as they were there plenty earlier but at 9am it was still great conditions. Forecast had it dropping but it actually increased again to make for a whole day of great riding. Unfortunately, I forgot to restart my watch, so I missed some of the tracking, but I did get my long upwind/downwind jaunt up the coast a bit. First time up to the lake this year. Machine came over from Vancouver for the weekend. Arrived around 11:30 and the wind was just starting, got on the water around 12:30 after watching Bobson barely have enough for the first little while. Went to about 5:45 then stopped for Dinner and a couple drinks before a quick sunset sail. Finished the day at the Bonfire on the beach. No wetsuit all day!

1:30pm out on the Wing. Perfect conditions! 15kts and fairly flat water. Getting some steering ability and staying dry on about 75% of my jibes. Maybe 60% planing through and touch down, foot switch and back foot pressure to get it up! So much fun!!!

Slow start to the wind for fins. After an early failed ws attempt Udder was kind enough to walk up to the house and help me carry back my windfoil gear...thanks Udder!!! Wind foil was the call in the lighter wind.
Wind finally kicked in sufficiently steady and strong to allow ws at about 11:45am so headed back out on the windsurfer. Enjoyed an hour or so of bliss.
A long debrief and beer session after with the crew...a couple more than the normal 1 after session refreshment...thanks for sharing!!!

More gear work in the morning. (Unfortunately) But a nice wetsuit-less afternoon mix of low speed upwind sailing and speed reaches water colors are great and so were all the sailors out there having fun. Thanks for letting me try your gear Dave! Great taking in lots of sailors out enjoying it and talking shop around the trees & very cool sailing with and talking Winsurfing in the late 70s & 80s with John from Sooke.
Hoping to sail 7 days in a row.

Started light, wfoiled or tried to, 2 reaches ws, thermal kick happened at noon, goodfoiling and switched back to wsurf.learned about the crouch and penis pillows. Great debeerin with Bryan davidm and bwd. Turned into an all day affair, so fun.
