Arrived early and said Hi to RBL as I drove though his hood. I pulled up behind GregCan and had a nap in my man-van while waiting for the wind. Sun came out and he woke me up and we started to rig. He rigged big (6.0) and I rigged small (4.5) and we were both out foiling for 15-20mins before others arrived. GMAC and Le Twizz were first ones out. Missed the best winds arriving at Noon. The RC sail fleet racing at Wheatcroft Pk in the Lagoon had the best overall conditions imo. Rigged & ready by 2pm. A lull between fronts delayed launching till 3pm. 2pm Reading at Entrance was 18knots but it didn't fill in. Also Harmac was running near full tilt and bright skies over Nanaimo may of been the result of heat from the mill. Smoothies. Less wind, more wind swell (on the outside) today. Started out looking a little hollow, but there was enough wind to make 4.5/92 work right from the start. There were moments of too light, too much, and just right (and a few big lulls too) but there was wind for most of the day. First time on my 62 litre Quatro Drifter! (Yesterday didn't count!) Compact shape very sensitive to input, wish I was as sensitive in my output. Still able to pull off a knee start with difficulty in the wave zone, me being 77kg dry weight. Nice session despite some rain! I hardy saw any floating weeds but the ones I saw were stuck on my foil. Lots of practice knee starting after clearing the foil. Some big swell and breaking waves.

Got the dawn patrol session in SSE 18-25 on 8m+surfboard. Started in heavy rain then became off and on. Clean waves outside. Disorganized inside. Weeds spoiled my session. Otherwise, good turn out of windsurfers and kiters - even from Squamish and Whistler ... no wingers for a change.

Arrived to lots outside but not much inside almost like a RB day except for the downpouring sideways rain. It was pretty up and down with longer lulls. 15-18kts then 5 mins of less than 10kts and then it would come in again. Lots and Lots of kelp and eel grass to try and avoid. Good morning of foiling action. Woke up early to watch the Kiwi's win the Americas Cup again and then got out for a foil myself! Weirdly the Yarrow Point weather mark was showing 12-16 all early morning so I headed down to the local spot just before 8 and headed out. Got a great hour in on the 950 paired with the 370. Not sure why there wasn't much wind yesterday afternoon here when it was blowing 25 in Victoria but there was this morning when there isn't much wind in Victoria, strange.

Late arrival at Island View, I checked out the North parking lot (where I should have launched) then decided to drive back to the South lot and launch where 'the action' was happening. Pumped up the 4.0 and launched and was quickly pounded by the shore break, stood around for five minutes and decided to preserve myself and gear. Arrived early. Nice to get out and see the gang while we waited for the wind. Light wind to start so went with the 8m. Wind picked up, so overpowered at times, but still some big holes. Made a bunch of gybes, so I was happy until I had a nasty fall and decided to pack it in. Hit the board pretty hard. No real damage, just a bruised leg.

Nice 2 hours on the water with the 5.0 until I got blown off the water once it really picked up. Also wind had shifted and made swell a bit disorganized. Went down to a 4.5 and 95ltr but was only enough for me in the gusts and I would drop off plane in the holes. Called it a day at that point. Great time on the water and nice to see the ws crew after 3 week pause in the fall wind action.

Super fun head high breaking waves close to shore and down in the bay. A bit gusty and lumpy but a few big smoothies on the sandbar, loved super steep highspeed out of control feeling and then cranking a couple of turns. A few guys out leaving work early I'm sure.

Columbia attempt got in my head again. Man those looked like some big waves. Maybe try to hit Columbia in less wind and when the tide is out would be my guess. Packed up and hit Nanoose for a little bit of a smoother ride. Lots of jumps and could barely hold on to the boom at some points but still super fun.

Solid. Arrived slightly earlier than expected to find more wind than expected. Rigged a flat 4.5/92 and it was OK at first (onshore riding and one nice floater to port) until it wasn't. Came in to grab 3.8/74 and even that had to be flattened out and then with some tunning it started to feel "just right"! Chop on the way out was hectic on the low tide. Launched just as the wind started drop, so I came in and waited it out with all the regular crew. While we waited many of the early shifters packed it up for the day, and at one point we were treated to the sight of Bobson's bare ass, which I assume must be a rite of passage in this community. A wind line appeared so I relaunched and had two hours in some of the gnarliest winds I've experienced. Super gusty, shifty AF, huge holes -- constant adjustments were required to stay upright. Launched into the lagoon at 6:15pm with a running light. Too close to dark and too much wind in the gusts on the outside for the 5.7M. One person was Kiting the Lagoon and doing well up until 30 minutes before I launched. ( a freind of Scarlet). I planed on a couple gusts but mostly did upwind & downwind slogging. The gusts flowing over the beach head onto the lagoon felt nice & fresh & freindly. Good seeing you again Harbour Master Scarlet.

Great day in tough winds at Willows with a massive OG crew! 4m winds in the parking lot, but felt like 6m at the beach. Went with 6m. 5m would have been a better choice. Regardless, there was swell to play in by the yellow buoy. Came off foil on a couple of jibes signalling reduced winds. Came in and missed the slog. Wind re-started with a vengeance after an hour. Went back out with my already pumped 6m and easily got up on foil. I was way OP'd and played til my arms got too tired. Sweet!

Showed up during the lull. Waited about 30 mins and it refreshed nicely. Stormy and lots of seaweed, but stuck it out for a fun session. Forgot about how fun Willows can be. Monsoon started and I decided to head for the Penny and a pint.

First big swell day at cb in a long while WOW. Challenging conditions, a bit survival winging at times. Smallest gear I have made it manageable and then fun. Got the low tide session at noon marginally powered on 5m+surfboard in SSE 25 ... then in ramped up to a punchy SSE 25-35 :shock: . Still plenty of weeds to ruin my low tide session.
Mostly choppy until tide flooded high enough for some smooth rollers.
Called it quits a 3pm to save some energy for Saturday morning. Fingers crossed.

Fun season opener. Challenging shorebreak even at the N parking lot. Great waves with some large sandbar sets. Crappy wind though with some giant lulls. Wing was slowly leaking so had a big downwind drift and swim. Warm water.

The wind was easing, gusting and fickle but the swell was wicked. Shore break was on the big side and made getting in and out a bit challenging. Lots of kites and wings out there. I got three good shoreline swell wave rides with one really good result. I came to shore and turned to face the incoming swell and there was a lovely big one setting up right in front of me.
