Log at the Lake Nitinaht beach

Post by elevationkiteboarding »

I am sure you have heard about the log that wandered onto our beach over the winter. Well, it was suppose to leave by spring, but it refused. So, we cut it into peace’s, and tried to tow it out, without success. We even used the big fishing boat without success because the rope snapped.
Sometimes it is worth waiting and see how nature can help us out. The heavy rains and the rising water level in the lake have come to our rescue. Last evening I noticed that the trunk was rocking in the waves. I guess it kept on “rocking all night long” until the cut we made close to the roots finally snapped and the stump flipped over. This morning, while we still had a very high tide, the water is just short of our school tent pad, we were able to tow it off the beach. We were able to tow the trunk with the roots and the first section into open water…
=D>
The remaining sections on the beach will have to be cut into manageable section and removed. That is expected to happen in the next few days or weeks.
The big news is that the log is off the beach and will not cause a hazard to any one.
Thanks everyone for helping with our effort. Let the kiting and winging season begin 8)

Continue to make progress in removing the remaining sections of the log at the beach. Mark cut the log into more manageable sections (pictures in the gallery). We used 10 sections as seats and tables in the school area, the rest needs to be moved away. Maybe you have a need for a coffee table with an u usual story? Roll it away, and it is yours.

We are making progress in removing the log from the Nitinaht beach. Last evening Mark and his crew towed two sections into the open waters. One small section came back and beached just upwind from the school. There are still three sections on the beach that need to be removed. As soon as the limbs are cut off, we will be able to roll them away too.
It took a while, but together we were able to solve the issue and keep our beach save for our wind sports.

It is time we close this chapter. The tree that stranded on our beach is gone. Piece by piece it was removed, or pushed back into the water to find a new resting place.
Thanks to everyone that helped to get rid of the tree. As i said before, it was a great group effort.
Thank You!
