Squamish Kiteboard Racing Event 2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Squamish Kiteboard Racing -
2011 Squamish Open Annual Regatta & 2011 CKA Canadian National Championship
Squamish, BC, Canada – March 24, 2011 The Squamish Windsports Society (SWS) in combination with the Squamish Yacht Club (SYC) is very pleased to announce an open, international kiteboard fleet and the 2011 CKA Canadian National Championship as part of the 32nd annual Squamish Open Annual Regatta (SOAR), held concurrently from the Squamish Spit and Nexan beach. Kiteboarding competitors will be racing shoulder-to-shoulder at high speeds around a marked course to see who is the fastest to the finish line.
Course Racing is a very exciting and new feature of the Kiteboarding sport. Efforts are even being made to bring this new feature of the sport to the 2016 Olympic Games in conjunction with the International Kiteboarding Association who, along with the Canadian Kiteboarding Association (CKA), is supporting this event.
Races are scheduled for Friday-Sunday August 5-7th. Celebrations kick off with Slalom racing on Friday at noon and an optional Expression Session at 4 p.m. with Course racing to start at noon on Saturday. Racers will battle for point ratings which will go towards overall rankings and titles, along with prizes and a $TBD purse. Races last approximately 15-30 minutes each, and can run back to back until 5pm.
The series is open to all competent kiteboarders from any country with categories for Open Overall, National Overall and Women.
With the long-term goal of becoming a premium location & venue on the world stage, this event could not be possible without the support of the Squamish Windsports Society, Squamish Yacht Club and supporting sponsor base. The Squamish Open Annual Regatta has hosted dinghies and yachts from the Pacific Northwest since 1979 and is now proud to add kiting to this classic event.

the course racing on Aug 6-7 is Open, so you can use any board - but really you need a race board to make it around the course in time.
but on Friday, Aug 5, there is Slalom Racing. Its kind of like bordercross but no jumping. It's all downwind around bouys, so transitions are key. I think that Twintips might actually be a really good choice for this racing.
