Nitnat forecast

Post by raztec »

What do people use to predict the winds for Nitnat lake?
I'm thinking of going this weekend but need to know what it's going to be like.

Many thanks for any help.

Goto tab Forecasts --> City Forecasts

Choose Port Alberni --> remember temperatures
Choose Tofino --> look at temperatures

if 5 degree temperature difference could be ok for big kite
if 6 degrees to 8 degrees should be 9.5 (I'm 150 lbs)
if 9 degrees to 12 degrees should be 7.0
if 13 degrees or up it's going to nuke

if images tab shows fog off the coast it will be a little windier than expected (fog keep s the temperature down when Port Alberni heats up)

if day your looking at is similar to a previous day you can look at the Nitinat Weather station history but typically show up at 11:30 unless its really hot

There are many other ways to tell

Short, really easy beginner forecast - look for Victoria weather to be sunny or mostly sunny and temps in the low to mid 20s.

Little more work, its a thermal wind, and look for temperatures forecast for Tofino and Port Alberni to be at least about 5 degrees different. 7 or 8 is good. Really really hot, especially at the coast (Tofino) often shuts down the wind at the Nat.

Look for clear skies in this image: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/wfo/sew/vis.jpg A marine layer along the coast = strong winds @ the lake :P
Thermals are good.
