Got to RB late afternoon. Looks like people had already been out there for quite a few hours. Wind still looked good and tons of swell out past the point. some conflicting waves coming in from two angles, along with some nice clean rollers. Wind Became inconsistent and I was trying to chain puffs together. That was the indicator that it was time to leave. Short and sweet.

Scored the afternoon shift as most of the morning shift was wrapping up including Chuck. Dave Bush, Cash, Jeff and I had the waves all to ourselves under a tropical sunny sky. Steady SSW 18-20. Tons of bottom turns on 8m+surfboard. Fun watching Dave killing it in the waves.
Wrapped up after 2.5 hrs to save up some energy for dawn patrol

Light air session right off the back of the boat. Lots of pumping but a good way to spend a bit of time while the kids napped. Couldn't sail back to the boat because it was tucked in a windless hole, the wife let the dinghy go and I scooped as it drifted past in the breeze to end the session! No risk with a nice sandy beach downwind. Supposed to blow pretty good tonight and tomorrow morning so hoping for a good early morning session on the small foil. Rain held off the whole time. Love this is so easy wit ... (more)

Gusty and challenging conditions at RB today. Arrived at noon to a lull and no one on the water. I rigged my 5.5 and launched with Grant, also on his new-to-him 5.5 Unit! As soon as I got away from the beach there was plenty of wind, and the waves were good sized off of Clover. I feel like I'm able to get on foil a bit more efficiently now, but my pumping technique still has a long way to go. All the kelp forced me to practice S-turns non stop, so I tried to think of that as a good thing. I came in fo ... (more)

Well, sometimes too much of a good thing.....
Wind came in hard, within a few minutes steady 20kts and gusting.
Got out and had some puckering sleigh rides - with a full gale in the forecast though, decided to call it quits before the surf exit became a complete shitshow.
Of course now that I'm in, looks like it's holding steady, and maybe i could have stayed out :-(

Out cruising at Jedidiah Island, anchored in Deep bay. Not enough wind to go strait from the boat and the current was ripping in the small pass just outside the anchorage so a dinghy ride to the wind was in order. Decided to go in the sheltered waters of Bull Passage as it was pretty full on to the east of the anchorage. Raining and no one else in sight other than the family on the boat. The rum and coke tasted good after and the wetsuit got a rain rinse.

Took time getting here, as it did it backed off immediately again. Took a seat & watched for a bit then it was on. Not as fully juiced as one would hope, 94 to 118/5.3 & kicked down again later. Pumped a bit much for my liking, Pork's n I milked it late. Decent sesh tho as waves were pretty nicely formed.

OSRs from Willows were uninspiring, so I checked RB on the way. And voila! There was 12-16 SE at RB and I told my Willows foiling agents that I would be staying at RB and encouraged them to join me. I quickly jumped in with my biggest wing and was foiling 30m from shore! Woo hoo! That lasted all of about 10min and 5 foiling runs. Then the min price for lifting was 20 pumps. Sadly, Jon joined as the winds lulled. Slogged back and noted the burgeoning formation of the kelp forest. Sigh.

Went and checked out Willows, but access was tricky due to Tea Party. Almost launched at Cattle Point, but looked flat and not that windy. MrNorthSouth said IV was building, I had some time, so trekked up there for the first time in awhile, thanks for the OSR!! Great swell, wind was up and down, and like BWD said - lots of weeds. Serious question, how do people without straps get weeds off? I jump it off pretty much works every time.

Got a fun session in. Parked at Bowker so had to do an initial starboard tack towards the tea hut and quickly noticed i needed to dismount to get by the lurking concrete outfall. Once that was all accomplished i could get flying on port and to the outside. It was really flat and well powered on the outside so tried some speed runs, tried the back strap again(yech!), practiced tacks, jibes, 360s. It quickly died while outside so had a long sit schlog then paddle in to the beach. Got drenched changing into c ... (more)

Started on the new 5.5 strike. Nice wing with lots of drive and still light. Rode the 60L for the first time in a while and the corkiness of -5L to my weight is harder than the 39L by far. Missed carving the small board. Wind ramped up and Marty and Tuna showed up. Had to avoid the land mines of kelp but the steep waves on the bar all the way in were fun. Changed to the 4m and the waves got better. BWD out and Paul arrived when I was packing up.

That was a gooder!
Nice consistent wind, was at the Spit proper so waves weren't too big, but still rideable.
Some weed patches but largely avoidable- unlike last night!
Several kiters and one other wingding also playing with me on the outside.

Windy was pretty much on target, wind was on by 2:30, had a fun session in the mixed sun. Few weeds and the tide was upper and slack, on shore but ok, easy to get going. First time for me at the spit, really liked the silky white sand, so that was cool, 3 wingers and a windsurfer. Wind was still on when I left at 5:30. '?

Pretty poor OSRs from the usual venues, so I thought I'd try something a bit closer to home and try to buzz the Navy frigates that I used to serve on. Sadly, I picked 5 when I should have went 6. Onshore made it tough to get out. The loose and rooted kelp and unfamiliarity with the location increased the difficulty. Wind was light and not as carveable as I like it. Regardless, I've ticked that location and it's worth a return if the conditions are favourable. Cool to try new places!

Took a LONG time to build- just after noon built to 10kts ( i need 12) then held there - all afternoon- with me staring out the window, all geared up.
Finally after dinner it came in a bit harder and it was game on.
Turned out not exactly a fun game - patch after patch of that annoying sargassum weed '?
When i did get foiling it was fun though.

Been a while since I'd mowed the lawn at my home break. Had a small time window so better than nothing. Getting more comfortable on the Dragonfly.

Quick gamble session after hatchery work was meh. Pretty sure I missed the happy hour, but I got out anyways. Probably need to adjust some battens on a couple sails, they ain't looking to good. 1 kiter and one winger on the lake. Campground looks completely empty except for 2 spots. Back in July with the fam and friends.

Day two on the lake. High overcast, westerly wind off the coast of Vancouver Island just funneled up the lake perfectly' well, good enough to have fun for an hour.

Warm and sunny, Rigged the 6.4m Cloud and foil and headed out, very light and definitely at the bottom of my wind range for the kite. Managed to get upwind, but the current was strong and eventually got me on a bad gybe. Managed to get back up on foil and headed in. A few others out on a beautiful sunny evening.

First ride this year a Lake Nitinaht. Cold, yes, but great fun. Not too many people on the lake yet, Pete, David and myself were on the lake, two more kiters joined us later. Wind was OK, but there were some up and downs'

Another fun and sunny 5.5m session at RB. Caught the early session from noon. Wind gradually increased until it lulled in the afternoon, mostly lumpy and choppy on the outside. Need to expand my pre-jibe clearance checks to account for those crazy upwind winger angles of attack...sorry for the close shave Dave!

Cruisy conditions with 1ft waves at first so tried lots of speed runs. Then the big dark cloud from the N killed it briefly. Then it cleared and came back strong with some fun waves.
