The wind was easing, gusting and fickle but the swell was wicked. Shore break was on the big side and made getting in and out a bit challenging. Lots of kites and wings out there. I got three good shoreline swell wave rides with one really good result. I came to shore and turned to face the incoming swell and there was a lovely big one setting up right in front of me. I rode that one and when it started to break I got over the white wash and there was another clean swell right behind it. I caught the second one and rode it for a bit and when it started to break, I got over the wash and incredibly caught the third swell in the set for a final cruise. I didn't get over its wash but I didn't care, it was a great ride. My other two shoreline runs were less successful and I ended up in the washing machine on one of them. The wind did ease to the degree that it was getting hard to stay upwind and I came ashore downwind a ways and walked back to the launch area. It was a super session! All that mellow wind and water summer kiting does not really prepare you for a proper winter session with big water. The first winter session of the year is full-on and so thrilling.
