Gath Helmets

Post by iamvwman »

I am looking to buy a helmet and I have noticed that the Gath helmets seem to be popular with many of the locals. Can anyone give me an opinion on the visors that come on the helmets? I was thinking of getting one with a visor but I am not sure about a full retractable or half visor.

Cheers, Rob.

I think a bunch of us should get the full visor edition and get some pictures taken with them on...send it in to the windsurfing mags.....should be good for getting some our pics in a magazine!

Does anyone know if the full retractable visor can be locked in only partially down?

a visor or liberal applications of suncreen are necessary to avoid the dreaded gath-face, a condition where there is a striking horizontal tan line across your forehead. :D

Gath visor

Post by KC7777 »

Hi,

I just got the retractable visor Gath. It doesn't "lock down" when you pull it down...but it there is a fair bit of resistance to the visor....so wherever you pull the visor down to it will stay there.

....go retractable, as it is more useful when the sun is right in your eyes.

Also good for scaring kids too.

I've been thinking of getting one of those to.
If you find them, can you post how much they are?
I e-mailed them once about price... but no response.

Ebay man!!!!

Post by KC7777 »

Hi,

I got mine on Ebay....as Gath sporadically sells its older models on EBay.

Simply go into "Buy" on eBay and search for "Gath" There are approx. 10 Gath helmets for sale right now in various sizes/colours/with or without visor. Some are even in custom colours that they could not sell. For example, there is a red, large, Bob Marley Rasta Gath on eBay right now....

Minimum bid price is approx. $60 - $90 CDN plus approx. $20CDN to ship = $80- $110 all-in? You might get dinged for some taxes on import, I am not sure. Note: The Gaths on eBay usually go for around the minimum prices.

This is slightly cheaper than buying them direct from Gath.

Gath visor

Post by KC7777 »

Hi,

I don't think you can put a Gath visor on a Gath helmet that does not already have one....as the Gath visors are built in to the helmet.

Regards,

GATH

I have the Gath half visor, and I love it. I don't even notice the visor, but it keeps the sun out.

Kiteboarding, Windsurfing, Kayaking Helmets

Post by KUS »

Just as an FYI, I now have a full range available to fit, look at, try out. Visors, Peaks, Convertibles, Rescue, Gedis.

Pricing ranges from $62US (which ends up at $85US due to $10 shipping, $6brokerage/duty, $7 taxes for those who instantly go for the bottom line) for the base surf hats and up.

The strength in my view of the Gath helmets are their super light weight (u really forget you even have one on), no bulk and the aqua-dynamics when you hit the water. There is NO product like them. The Protec for example or when I used to wear the hockey helmet for years used to result in neck issues when striking the water. Also depending on the model they keep your head warm and prevent perforated ear drums when learning/doing loops  The helmet seems to save me regularly when I get clocked by the mast or board especially when in surf, had three hits on the Coast just last week. (too bad they don't cover your nose  )

The Gedis are the best model for kiting with added impact protection and are also certified through the Kayak helmet safety standard. If you are still one of those nuts kiting without a helmet you might wanna just have a look at these, they are NOT like the rest. Image

They also have action camera mounts available as well as a waterski model that has a goggle attachment and ear safety plugs.

Pls give me a PM if you would like to have a look 8)
