Kiteboarding Lessons in Port Alberni - WWW

Post by Sandy Beach »

We (at WWW) conduct our kiting lessons with the assistance of the jetski and (IKO-certified instructor) up the Alberni inlet, which offers miles of distance and much practice for beginners.

Ideal conditions for lessons, not to mention accessible just off the highway.

Please contact Matt at 250 937-9463 (#250 yes wind) for scheduling details, since with these windy days, our lesson slots are booking up fast.

kiteboarding lessons offered in thermal windy zone, PA

Post by Sandy Beach »

Now that summer has arrived in the Alberni valley, kiteboarding lessons are booking up. Lots of PA locals, who see the wind and kites in the canal are learning to kite this season, yeehawww!

People have been inquiring about what Wild West Watersports offers and here's some reviews and recent chatter on some forums to offer more information.

So we'd been hearing about Port Alberni for a while now and thought we'd check it out last weekend.

Wow - really impressive. The kiting was fun, the mountain biking was great but what really jumped out was the small town hospitality. Everybody went out of their way to fill us in on things to do and places to go. There is a really committed group of people who are working on developing the recreational side of PA and we had the pleasure of meeting some of them.

My wife isn't kiting at the moment but there's a great sheltered spot to take in all the action, a grassy rigging area and warm (may as well be fresh) water. They're still working on the launch, and jumping off a refurbished industrial pier with your kite is a little different but this is the west coast I guess. Between rocks, breakwaters, barnicles and forests, we always have to have something interesting at our launches. If there were wide open sandy beaches with no obstacles people might start thinking it was mexico.

If you go, check out wild west watersports for kiting, the trail behind coombs candy for biking (talk to the guys at ozzy's cycles), timbers for dinner, and think about china creek for a 7km downwider into PA. There's lots of things to do after dinner too.
Many thanks to Matt, Sandy, Johanna and Katie for their hospitality.

Another stellar day in the valley shaping up for wind this afternoon, now starting earlier (2pmish) and lasting until sunset!

Port Alberni : up the Alberni inlet kiting options

Post by Sandy Beach »

For some kiteboarders that are interested in having a long session, but don't feel confident with staying upwind of the pier, we have been offering jetski-assisted downwinders from 4 km (1.5-2.0 hrs kiting) up the inlet towards China Creek. It's a scenic, non-crowded journey.

We launch from a grassy, beach area on the other side. This is also the same place where we conduct beginner kite lessons.

So, for those of you who want to kite in Pt Alberni, but need a little more assistance on the water, this jetski-assist may be just the ticket to help build your confidence.
