Willows Webcam: looking for a new location

Post by morewind »

We need to find a new site for the Willows webcam. The existing house is no longer available.

Does anyone know of potential people who would host a Willows webcam?

What's in it for the host?
- BWD will subsidize the monthly internet costs for anyone who can host the cam
- they get major gratitude from the windsurfers, kiters, SUPers, and dog walkers.

What impact on the host?
- not much. We'll consult with them on webcam site and do all the installation work.
- we can mount the camera so it does not intrude on the views of the residents. Either inside or outside the house.

Below is a map, showing areas where a webcam would provide good viewing angles. Sites more to the north could work but are affected by the end-of-day sun, giving a lot of glare. If you have any thoughts on location please post.

I'm on holidays for the next couple of weeks. When I'm back I'll do some door-to-door inquiries to see if anyone is interested to become a webcam host.

Please post or PM with your ideas on this. thanks!

I can try to get the yacht club interested in hosting a site as well... they have had a cam installed off the docks in Cadboro Bay but mainly for the groups sailing in the bay. Most of the keel boats sail right past Cattle Point on a flood / westerly so something there would be sweet!
As for the door to door knocking I can possibly do it this upcoming sunday while waiting for the storm to develop and build into Willows! there's almost 30 homes that seem to work and that wouldn't take long to knock about or even just drop a letter
